Each apartment is provided with local smoke detectors, with the alarm sounders connected to a mute button located adjacent to the apartment exit.
If activated, these detectors will only set off an alarm within your apartment (not the whole building) to warn you of a smoke hazard. If you have activated the system by accident (i.e. burning toast) you can silence the alarm by pressing the ‘Fire Alarm Silence’ button (pictured). The alarm silencer is generally found near your entrance or kitchen/living area.
Please note, the alarm will keep sounding until the silence button is pressed. If it is not pressed the alarm system for the wider building will be activated and the Fire Service will be alerted, which could incur a large fee. If you happen to activate the alarm inside your apartment, please do not open your front door into the shared lobby as this can activate the building wide alarm. To provide ventilation, please open the sliding door onto the balcony. If the smoke detector is activated due to a genuine fire or smoke event you should exit the building in accordance with the fire evacuation scheme.
If activated, the smoke detectors in shared spaces and service areas will sound the alarm to evacuate the whole building and link through to the Fire Service. Please follow the instructions shown on the fire action notices displayed above the manual call points throughout the building.
Auto-activation
The entire building is fitted with a fire protection and sprinkler system. If this system senses a fire, it will automatically activate the sprinklers and sound the fire alarm to alert you to evacuate the building. The system will also send a request to the Fire Service to attend.
Manual activation
If you find smoke or fire, you should activate the closest manual call point – these are clearly marked in shared areas.. This will sound the fire alarm to evacuate the building and call the Fire Service. If possible, also call 111.
Confirm the nature of emergency, location and building address: 161 Victoria Street, Te Aro, Wellington
Two independent protected fire egress routes will be provided from the lift lobby on levels 4 to 13. A single fire egress route is provided on levels 14 to 16.
False alarm
Please notify the Resident Services Manager if you activate the alarm by accident. Please note that the Fire Service may charge a fine for false call outs.
The body corporate will organise a full system test and trial evacuation every six months.
